Could be the impeller impeller cover or the motor is not sat properly. Turn it off remove the aqua-stop and remove the motor head. Check the baskets are sat correctly and not over-filled with media baskets should be about 34 full.

Normally the Fluval brand equals quality this filter however is noisy as heck. Great power but a loud vibrating that sounds like its falling apart and doesnt stop. Strong current great filtration.
Great filter overall but Fluval please redesign this one to be quieter. Im replacing it after just one week due to the unforgiving noise. Anywhere thats convenient for you to access the filter without any obstacles I suggested bathroom just to take care any water spillages.

When it starts up its extremely noisy with the sounds that you describe but thats because theres air in it you can see the bubbles coming out in the stream of return water. The fluval 405305205 have what I consider to be a design flaw. The space between the intake for the pump to return water and the top of the filter media trays is about 14 too much. That means water coming in to be filtered can go right back out to the tank bypassing the filter media and it will.
